My second obsession is with Star Wars - specifically with that red-hot tattooed villian, Darth Maul. Naturally, I was really ticked off that Maul died in the movie. Oh well, at least he whacked that hippie freak Qui-gon before he bought the farm. (Note for Qui-gon lovers: He had long hair, loved peace, and had to be seriously doped up to stay that calm all the time. What else would you call him?)
The Tattoos:
Naturally they're about the first thing you notice on the guy. I love the lean, predatory look they give his face. The classic dark "bad guy" with slashes of a bloody red marked over the face. It's very nice, very Sithly.
The Eyes: I'm glad they changed Ray Park's eyes. Maul just wouldn't be Maul with a pair of baby blues on that face. The golden/red gaze gives me the impression of venomous snake coiled to strike, or of a giant jungle cat ready to pounce when I see those eyes.
The Horns: I've seen artist's renderings of what Maul might have looked like before they decided on the one we all know and love. Originally the horns were feathers tied to his head with a wire that gouged in to the flesh of his scalp. Owie! Lucky for Maul that the makeup department mistook the drawn feathers for horns, and that the Great God Lucas liked 'em.
The Bod: You really can't see it beneath all those layers of cloth, but he's built like a brick wall. I've seen various pics of Ray (the guy that played Maul) exercising, practicing and such. What can I say? He's solid, firm, and just plain gorgeous.
If there is one Maul site that you ever visit, this must be the one.
The Sith Academy is hilarious! It's definitely not for the weak-stomached or homophobes, but I'm a gal of the 21st century, I can take it and die laughing my ass off! It's based on a soap-opera-ish story line involving Maul, Obi-Wan, and various other characters (some of them made up just for the Academy). I like SA's view of Maul as a slobbish GenX'er. Reading about his pizza box civilizations, makes me feel a little better about my room ;-P
